Our purpose

Welcome to Gearhouse! Started in September 2021, Gearhouse is on a mission to increase affordable, equitable, and easy access to the outdoors while reducing our planet-killing consumption habits by providing an alternate path than ownership. We believe that by providing community, expertise, and convenient and premium gear access, we can reduce consumption while increasing access through affordability, convenience, and fun both for experienced and new folks alike.

We aim to introduce and develop a love of the outdoors for those new to exploring while also providing opportunities and paths for those already dabbling to develop more skills and expand their limits. Gearhouse is growing over 50% each month and we’re looking to expand our reach with hosted adventures.

The Job

Gearhouse is looking for an outdoor enthusiast with trip guiding and organizing experience to plan and lead regular adventures in the great outdoors.

You’ll work with our growing team of adventurers and also have ownership in coming up with adventure ideas, trip plans and hosting the adventures with members depending on what members want and need while also designing new adventures that will recruit new members.

We’ll have support staff to handle paperwork and digital marketing as well as lend a hand with some of the advance gear preparations, staging, and inventory management so you just get to have fun! We’ll likely need some help assisting with last minute gear modifications and fitment tweaks but otherwise this job is all about going outside and having fun with folks.

Adventures should entertain all of Gearhouse's members and thus include but not be limited to:

  • providing access to a range of the PNW's various seasonal outdoor attractions

  • adventures for those new to or learning an activity

  • adventures for those wanting to challenge and grow from their existing level

  • creative and novel activities that will pique intrigue from pros and beginners alike

  • partnerships or Gearhouse-led activities with a mission-driven outcome in mind

Example trips might include:

  • Day hiking trips

  • Paddleboarding trips to local or distant mountain lakes

  • Kayak camping trips to local islands

  • Backcountry ski/split touring days

  • Bouldering at local crags

  • Bike rides ranging from city wide waterfront tours to bikepacking to mountain biking

  • Foraging in the Pacific Northwest

  • All to supplement our relaxed in house game nights, talks, and skills classes

Ideally members have at least 2 activities that are interesting to them each month. Creative trips and partnerships with organizations welcomed and encouraged!

Gearhouse is growing and is building a creative, dynamic, and diverse team to grow with. Proven and talented team members will have an opportunity to expand their skills and roles within Gearhouse. We value creative thinkers and self-starters and you’ll have the opportunity from the beginning to dabble in, learn from, and contribute to other aspects of the business that excite you. Team members bringing new thoughts, ideas, and experiments to the table are valued and encouraged!

About you

The ideal candidate will enjoy a variety of PNW outdoor experiences for both winter and summer ranging from hiking to biking to skiing and have customer facing experience while having a welcoming and encouraging personality to help people get outside. They should enjoy talking to customers and have some entrepreneurial or sales experience or interest. We value what you know now and want to help you grow: Gearhouse team members bring a balance of experience in some activities and an excitement to try new things and learn new skills. Gearhouse has a mission-driven focus on creating equitable access and space for historically underrepresented communities in the outdoors. We welcome team members who share the belief that the outdoors is for all and there is no wrong way to get outside as long as Leave No Trace is followed.

Candidates must have or obtain a Wilderness First Responder certification and candidates with a few years of guiding or professional outdoor trip organizing experience and entrepreneurial experience valued.

We value hustle over experience. All interested parties are encouraged to apply or send questions to evan@joingearhouse.com
