About the event
The Pacific Northwest Womxn's Technical Climbing community is thrilled to welcome Charlotte to Gearhouse Seattle for this one-night travel writing workshop.
Charlotte Austin is an award-winning adventure writer, editor, and adventurer living on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She worked as an international mountain guide for more than a decade, and led climbing, mountaineering, and hiking expeditions around the globe. She has guided some of the world's biggest mountains, and worked in places including North and South America, Europe, Alaska, Patagonia, and Nepal. She is a Wilderness-EMT, a Leave No Trace (LNT) Trainer, and holds Level 2 certification with the American Institute for Avalanche Education and Training (AIARE). She is an extra class ham radio operator, and is currently writing a book about her successful summit of Mount Everest in 2019.
In this hands-on, interactive evening, Charlotte will share her tips, tricks and secrets to developing a writing practice, refining your stories, and getting published. Whether you’re a devoted journaler, dream of a career as freelance adventure writer, or are a published author, this workshop will help take you to the next level.
As one past student shared: "I didn't think of myself as a writer before this workshop. But everyone can benefit from exploring ways to communicate ideas effectively, and the concepts Charlotte shared helped me in more ways than I could have imagined."
No experience is necessary; just bring your love of writing and a desire to share your adventurous life. We’ll practice with fun and engaging writing prompts, dive into the tools you need to craft compelling stories, and discuss options for publication. No special equipment needed, other than your writing supplies (pen and paper or laptop) and a sense of curiosity.
As a special treat for the Pacific Northwest Womxn's climbing community, Charlotte has agreed to share early readings from her book about climbing Mount Everest.
This is an in-person event; however, if you'd prefer to join the workshop virtually, the workshop will also be broadcast live on Zoom — simply buy your ticket as usual, and you'll be sent a link to join the workshop online.
A portion of the proceeds from this evening will be donated to Planned Parenthood.
