About the event

Join the Gearhouse community for a four-part speaker series centered on women and femmes

in the outdoors. We’ll share stories from our adventures, tips and tricks we’ve learned along

the way, and advice for how to create your own path in the outdoors.

Whether you’re preparing for your first day hike or dreaming up an expedition, you’re invited

to be a part of this conversation and community. People of all genders are welcome and

encouraged to attend!

Your ticket enters you for a chance to win a Patagonia Ascensionist Backpack + more.

Bringing Women to the Summit

Riding on the momentum and inspiration of our last three speakers, we’ll spend an evening

talking about how to make your dreams come alive. Whether hiking, skiing, or climbing, women

face unique realities when we’re in the outdoors. By adjusting out approach accordingly, we

can elevate our adventures and thrive.

Alyssa will provide practical advice ranging from education and gear selection to gender

dynamics and communication tools. She’ll bring insights from a decade of working as an

outdoor professional and expand the conversation beyond the technical aspect of sport and

towards the nuanced human-factors that influence our time outside.

The evening will conclude with a celebration of what women and femmes bring to outdoor

spaces and a social space to connect.

Bio: Alyssa Young

Alyssa Young is a founding member of Cascade Mountain Ascents, a worker-owned mountain

guiding collective based in Bellingham. She is a dedicated backcountry skier and avalanche

educator, and is grateful to make a living of sharing the mountains with others. Alyssa loves the

multifaced nature of guiding and is constantly learning about how people relate to self,

community, and place through mountain travel. Her favorite things are being on skis, alpine

flowers, and the sound of women’s laughter in the mountains.
