About the event
This basic boat handling course provides you with the fundamental skills necessary to properly navigate a sailboat: basic seamanship, rules of the road, raising sails, docking, sail trims and steering.
This course is set-up to take you from a novice to a confident sailor, over the course of the Series.

- Understand & finding the wind
- How to use the wind to move the boat
- Sailing upwind and downwind
- Stopping & getting out of “irons”
- Tacking & Gybing
- COB maneuvers

Logistics
All of our lessons are 2 hours and taught by a USCG certified captain who has years of sailing experience. Lessons are separated into 4 levels with each introducing you to new skills and building on what you’ve previously learned.
You'll learn alongside other Gearhouse members, and will have access to boats to take out on Lake Union after you've qualified.
Multiple series will be run, so reach out to us at events@joingearhouse.com if you'd like to take lessons on a different date.
