About the event

About the Resort to Backcountry Program

Let’s get you backcountry skiing + splitboarding safely and confidently!

Join our incremental, step-by-step plan to go from a resort skier to a backcountry rider, and make backcountry buddies along the way.

Our system is designed to be low-commitment (choose which parts you want to do and at what pace), allowing you to progress as far as you feel comfortable or jump in at the level you feel best suits your needs. All backcountry gear available for rent too!

Parts 1-3 will get you to a level that you can confidently join any avalanche trained person in the backcountry! This is great stopping point for anyone’s first backcountry season, or you can keep on trucking through parts 4 and 5!

Parts 5 will get you avalanche trained and able to go with anyone that has toured before!

What to Expect:

Head out for a field day where participants new to the backcountry will learn the basics of companion rescue, while experienced participants can expand their skill set with advanced topics and realistic scenario practice to help improve their skills.  During the course, you'll have the opportunity to receive professional coaching on your rescue skills, and will receive a rescue card on completion.

What You'll Learn:

  • Describe what you do if you or a member of their party is caught in an avalanche
  • Identify and be able to use gear necessary for avalanche rescue
  • Experience  a realistic scenario in order to practice an avalanche rescue response
  • Improve your response skills and times during and after the course with feedback from instructors and peers
  • Multiple beacons rescue
  • Develop a plan for continuing practice
